Ford Escape vs The Competition

The Ford Escape Tackles the SUV Competition

As much as we appreciate all of the virtues and benefits of a new Ford Escape for Augusta, MI drivers, we also know there are a lot of other SUVs available on the market today vying for your attention. If you're torn between our stellar Escape, and either the Nissan Rogue or the Chevy Equinox, we can help.

We've done a little side-by-side-by-side comparison of these three similarly sized vehicles, and we've discovered a number of key areas where our Escape clearly comes out ahead of the competition. Read on for more information on how these SUVs stack up next to each other and stop by to meet the Escape in person and take it for a test drive.

The Ford Escape vs. the Nissan Rogue

  • Powertrains. Hastings, MI drivers who go for the Ford Escape get a range of three exciting engines to choose from. The lineup starts with a 168-horsepower four-cylinder, continues with an optional turbocharged four-cylinder rated for 179 horsepower, and tops out with a nice 245-horsepower turbo four-cylinder at the top-of-the-line Titanium trim level. The Nissan Rogue, however, doesn't offer any alternative engines to the base model. Every gas-powered Rogue is powered by the same 170-horsepower four-cylinder engine, which isn't as responsive or fun as the Ford Escape options.
  • Safety features. Both SUVs come with features that protect you and your family, including a comprehensive airbag system and a rearview camera. But, only the Ford Escape also helps take the anxiety out of teaching your teenager to drive, with the signature Ford MyKey system of parental controls. This feature, which comes standard on every Ford Escape, allows you to set limits to things such as radio volume and speed, giving you more peace of mind than the Rogue offers.
  • Size and handling. While both models are similar in size, with five-passenger SUV style, the Ford Escape has a slightly lower ground clearance and a slightly shorter wheelbase than the Nissan Rogue. What this means for you is an easier handling, where the Ford Escape is easier to drive and park than the Nissan Rogue, and feels similar to driving a smaller sedan instead of a large SUV.

The Ford Escape vs. the Chevy Equinox

  • Cargo space. For the Hickory Corners and Marshall, MI driver who needs a lot of space for hauling cargo and sporting equipment, the Ford Escape has a roomier storage space than the Equinox. The Escape rear cargo hold accommodates up to 34 cubic feet of gear, while the Equinox can manage around 29 cubic feet. Plus, the Escape has several additional, small item storage solutions, which make it easier to take life's smaller objects with you.
  • Passenger space. The Ford Escape also tops the Equinox when it comes to legroom and comfy passenger space. You, and your passengers will be able to stretch your legs a little more in the Escape than the Rogue, with three extra inches of legroom in the front seat and two extra inches in the backseat.
  • Base model availability. For drivers in the Delton, MI area who prefer to shop for the entry-level trim on their new vehicles, the Ford Escape offers a great base model option. The Chevy Equinox, on the other hand, doesn't have a good entry-level option, because their base model trim is only available as a built-to-order model, and you won't be able to find it waiting for you on your local dealership lot.
